Paul Bunyan and Babe, his Blue Ox
Bemidji, MN
0B-H662

Because it is such a distinctive landmark, postcards of Paul Bunyan were popular and had several designs. This postcard is 0B-H662. The card was created in 1940.

As a small but important element of the Large Letter postcard, the production file job jacket envelope mentions him by name: "In place of Paul Bunyan being all alone, I think Babe the Blue Ox should be with him"

Text on the back of the card:
"These huge figures of steel and concrete built on the shore of Lake Bemidji are emblematical of the days of the early lumberjack who originated lumbercamp whoppers of Paul and Babe that have been handed down for generations. These stories, never heard outside the haunts of the lumberjack until recent years, are declared by some literary authorities to be 'the only true American myth.'"
